以下是从去年得到的一张WLF Think Tank的明信片上抄录下来的贴士,我很喜欢。题目是101 Things a translator needs to know(N°75):
Many would-be translators focus on their foreign language skills and forget that the quality of their translation ultimately depends on their ability to express themselves in the language they are translating into. That's a big mistake.
As a translator, you are a writer. And your writing skills must be better than 98 per cent of the general population (including university graduates).
But it doesn't stop there. After all, language evolves. Don't rest on your laurels. Track developments and usage - not to embrace passing fads willy-nilly, but to incorporate developments that will make your texts more effective in an ever-changing environment.
